Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. For a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family, these qualities were naturally. Maureen made her entrance into the safe haven of her parents on the 17th of August 1920 located in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lu. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin as well as owned a part of the famous Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and played rough, athletic games as a child. This interest was combined with an unnatural talent for performing. This was apparent when she was awarded every Feis for theatre and drama that Ireland had to offer. In the age of 14, she had been admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her goal was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
